What you told us

Back in the fall of 2020, around the time of the AGM, the Board released a survey questionnaire. A healthy mix of longtime and new members took the time to respond—thank you! We received some helpful feedback and suggestions.

Survey highlights

Most respondents were looking forward to a day when "…there are no Covid restrictions." And we all agree!

Many respondents wanted to pass on messages of appreciation to the 2020 Board and volunteers. One member said, “It was a great season, and thank you to the Board for dealing with the difficult situation. I found it the least stressful season that I've had in the 10+ years I've been a member.”  I share this sentiment and congratulate past president Jill Robertson on managing the club during such a stressful time.

The survey resulted in many compliments on the condition of the courts, specifically noting Donnie and Ernie for their tireless efforts. Other members, like Mike Hingston, were singled out for their welcoming attitude. While it is difficult to identify only a few people, I hope all the volunteers know how much we appreciate their help. I wish I could say “give a member a hug,” but that too is a reminder we are still in a global pandemic.

Many people join St. George’s for the social side of things, which was sadly lacking in 2020 due to the pandemic. Here we are at the start of the 2021 season and not much has changed. Please remain optimistic; let's see where we end up after restrictions are loosened. In the meantime, we can all socialize in new and different ways. For example, I reached out to invite members I rarely play with to join me on the courts.

Despite all the restrictions, we remained a very welcoming club in 2021. A new member said, "As a relatively new member, I commend you for the pleasant, welcoming atmosphere of the club." Agreed!

Many people have said how much they appreciate our new online booking system, however, it still needs some work. We learned a lot from last year, so look for improvements. A few suggestions came out of the survey related to how and when courts are used and looking for ways to avoid open courts. Thank you for your patience as we work to improve the online system.

Communication is more important than ever during this pandemic. People can all too easily feel isolated and unheard. One member said, "I really don't feel my opinion on anything matters here." Please be reassured: we are listening, and your feedback is extremely important. Survey results are essential to the Board and help with managing the club. Whether through a survey or an email, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
