Working at St. George’s Tennis Club is a special and unique opportunity.  We are the oldest tennis club in the region and this year the club is turning 140 years old! Our club features five tennis courts, a mini-court, and is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing fun and affordable options to play tennis.

Head Duty Host 

Job Type: Part-time/Seasonal 

Position Description: 

St. George’s is currently seeking a Head Duty Host for the 2025 summer season. The Head Duty Host (Head Host) reports to the Board of Directors and Grounds Director and is responsible for supervising the Club Hosts, representing the club by welcoming members and visitors, and ensuring the club facilities provide a positive member experience. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure duty hosts properly complete daily, weekly, and periodic tasks as required by the task lists for the grounds and clubhouse and addressing deficiencies as they occur. 

  • Prepare bi-weekly schedules for the Head Host and all Club Hosts, ensuring there is appropriate coverage for all hours of operation. 

  • Manage court times and online bookings and enforce club rules regarding daily playing limits. 

  • Operate the canteen (safe and secure handling of canteen cash) and informing Board contact of inventory requirements on a timely basis). 

  • Handle cash for other club activities (ball machine, ball sales, social activities, etc.). 

  • Grounds maintenance as required on the daily, weekly, and periodic task list, and as requested by the Grounds Director/Board. 

  • Club house cleaning and maintenance as required by the daily, weekly, and periodic task list, and as requested by the Grounds Director/Board. 

  • Ensure office, clubhouse and grounds supplies are maintained at appropriate levels for club operations. 

  • Update social media posts. 

Requirements/Qualifications: 

  • Ability to supervise others. 

  • Ability to work independently and with little supervision. 

  • Available to work nights, weekends, and holidays. 

  • Place high value on customer service. 

  • Experience with tennis or other sports would be viewed positively. 

  • First Aid/CPR certification (to be paid for by St. Georges if not currently trained). 

    Schedule: 

    This position typically provides 30+ hours each week starting mid-May and continues into the Fall.


Duty Host 

Job Type: Part-time/Seasonal 

Position Description: 

St. George’s is currently seeking Club Hosts for the 2025 summer season. Club Hosts report to the Head Duty Host and Grounds Director and are responsible for representing the club by welcoming members and visitors, and ensuring the club facilities provide a positive member experience. 


Responsibilities:
 

  • Manage court times and online bookings and enforce club rules regarding daily playing limits. 

  • Operate the canteen (safe and secure handling of canteen cash, and informing Board contact of inventory requirements on a timely basis). 

  • Handle cash for other club activities (ball machine, ball sales, social activities, and others). 

  • Grounds maintenance as required on the daily, weekly, and periodic task list; and as requested by the Grounds Director/Board.

These are part-time positions which typically start in May/June and continue into the Fall. We will also be identifying a Head Duty Host during the hiring process.  


Club Professional 

Job Type: Full-time/Seasonal (May – October)  

Position Description: 

St. George’s Tennis Club is seeking an energetic coach as our Club Professional. The ideal candidate must be able to work with members of all ages and skill levels and provide mentorship/continued development to the Junior Club Coaches. This position reports to the Board of Directors. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and deliver a fun and engaging junior program that develops physical literacy and encourages lifelong recreational activity. The program should also support technical development and competition for advanced junior players. 

  • Develop and deliver adult group lessons for members that are engaging and provide technical direction. 

  • Have sufficient availability to provide private lessons to members (beginner through to advanced level). 

  • Provide oversight to Junior Club Coaches. 

Requirements/Qualifications: 

  • Current TPA Club Pro 1 Certification (minimum). 

  • Experience working with kids (5 - 14 years old). 

  • Experience teaching group lessons for adults (2.0 – 3.5). 

  • Strong customer service and people skills. 

  • Punctual, organized, including good administrative skills. 

  • First Aid/CPR certification. 

  • Criminal/Vulnerable Sector background check (cost to be paid by St. George’s). 

Schedule:

May – October:

  • Private Lessons - based on demand and court availability 

May – August:

  • Adult Group Lessons – 2-3 evenings/week (June – August) 

  • Junior Program (lessons 1-2 days/week in May/June; lessons on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings in July/August) 

  • Availability to make up lessons cancelled due to poor weather. 

  • Club may consider alternative schedules if required.

Junior Club Coach 

Job Type: Part-time/Seasonal (June – August) 

Position Description: 

St. George’s Tennis Club is seeking an energetic Junior Club Coach who will be responsible for assisting with the Junior Tennis Program. The ideal candidate will be expected to facilitate a high-quality teaching, learning and FUN environment and must be comfortable interacting with kids of varying ages and skill levels (and their parents), advising them of progress and discuss any issues or concerns. This position reports to the Club Professional. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with the delivery of a fun and engaging junior program that develops physical literacy and encourages lifelong recreational activity, and supports technical development and competition for advanced junior players. 

  • Work effectively with the Club Professional and the Duty Hosts. 

  • Report any health and safety concerns promptly to the Club Professional. 

  • Maintain and inventory any junior tennis equipment. 

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Current TPA Instructor Certification (minimum). 

  • Experience working with kids (5 – 14 years old). 

  • Punctual, organized, including good administrative skills. 

Schedule: 

June – August:

  • Junior Program – Monday, Wednesday, Friday mornings 

  • Assist Club Professional (as requested) 


Title: Grounds Director

Job Type: Part-time/Seasonal

Position Description:

St. George’s is currently seeking a Grounds Director for the 2025 outdoor tennis season to
perform/oversee clubhouse and grounds operations. This individual should be well-organized
and able to manage work volunteers for club opening/closing tasks each year, as well as
provide ongoing court and club maintenance throughout the season. The club is fortunate to
have several current volunteers (Donnie, Ernie, Greg, Rodney, etc.) who will help train and
support this individual in their first year. The Grounds Director reports to the Board of
Directors and will be supported by the Head Duty Host.

Responsibilities:

Oversee/lead (with assistance of volunteers and duty hosts) the opening, ongoing
maintenance/cleanliness and closing of 5 har-tru clay courts, mini court, clubhouse and
grounds.

  • Train and manage duty hosts and liaise with the Head Duty Host regarding successful
    completion of task checklists each day.

  • Decide when to open and close courts due to inclement weather, and complete work
    after rain to be able to open as soon as possible.

  • Ensure court water system/cells are maintained at appropriate levels.

  • Purchase and maintain all supplies and equipment required for club operations.

  • Be the key contact/liaison with all agencies/suppliers, and with St. George’s neighbours.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Well organized and able to manage volunteers for club opening/closing tasks, and other
    activities as needed.

  • “Handy person” skills a benefit.

Schedule:

This position typically averages 15 hours each week beginning ~May 1 (may be some supply
ordering requirements in April) and continues until ~mid-November.

Rate of Pay:

$20/hour.
