2021 Board Member Nominations
The upcoming Annual General Meeting will put forward a new slate of board members for the 2021 season. In accordance with club bylaws, we are sharing the list of the nominations two weeks in advance of the meeting. Every member in good standing is welcome to offer comments as well as vote on the nominees.
John deWolf – Nominated as President
Multi-disciplinary designer John deWolf has worked in broadcast, exhibition design, and design education. With degrees in graphic design and interior design, his 28-year career spans locations including Halifax, New York, Washington (DC), and Budapest. John was responsible for managing budgets of $600–725,000 (USD), sourcing and managing annual revenues of $650,000+, and raising a $250,000 investment for an internet start-up. John worked for the federal government, three universities, and private businesses, including his own. Previous board commitments include Graphic Designers of Canada (Atlantic Chapter and National Executive), Society of Environmental Graphic Designers (Chapter Chair—District of Columbia), Professional Interior Design Association of Manitoba (Marketing Chair), NSCAD University Alumni Association (Treasurer), University of Manitoba Interior Design Association of Students (President), Architects Without Borders (member), and Interior Design Nova Scotia (member). John’s youth was spent at the Waegwoltic but he calls St. Georges’s home since returning to Halifax.
Jill Robertson – Immediate Past President
Jill is a physiotherapist. She owned and managed 2 busy physiotherapy clinics for 24 years. She has taught at Dalhousie University since 1990 as well as post graduate courses. Her volunteer activity has been multi-faceted including Sunday School teacher, soccer coach, hockey manager, theatre productions as well as treasurer and chair of the National Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy. She has been a member at St. George’s for 40 years.
Sarah Mudge – Nominated as Treasurer
Sarah has been the Financial Administrator for the Former Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation and Research Nova Scotia for three years. She has skills in Financial Management, Payroll and Full cycle accounting for not-for-profit organizations. Prior to that she worked in accounting admin positions in technical athletic apparel and hair care manufacturing.
Steve Marquis – Nominated as Board Member
Steve is an information technology professional specializing in electronic health record systems. His varied roles include project planning, workgroup facilitation and contract management. Steve worked closely with John DeWolf and the 2020 Board to revamp the St. George’s website, which included introducing the capability for online registration, payment and court bookings. He looks forward to continuing this work and improving what was started in 2020.
Maryann Mason – Nominated as Board Member
Maryann is an architect by training and currently works as a Project Manager in design and construction within the education and healthcare sectors. Skill sets include scheduling, budgets, risk assessment, contract management, relationship building and communication with stakeholders including Municipalities.
John MacPherson – Nominated as Board Member
John is an engineer/project manager with 23 years’ experience in the building design and construction management industry. He is currently the Manager of Facility Design & Construction with Halifax Regional Municipality responsible for HRM’s stock of over 200 buildings. Prior to this he was employed with Honeywell and SNC-Lavalin. He has also been a board member of the MicMac Amateur Aquatic Club.
Debi Karrel – Nominated as Board Member
Prior to retirement, Debi served as Director of Operations for the Property Valuation Services Corporation. She is a past board member of the Halifax YMCA and a past board member of the condominium association where she currently resides.
Tynan Gannett – Nominated as Board Member
Tynan is a student in his first year of a Bachelor of Science + Diploma in Engineering program at SMU. He has played volleyball for 6 years and is in the Team NS Canada Games beach volleyball program. He has been a member at St. George's for the past 6 years and has served as a duty host for the last 3 years. He has volunteer and leadership experience assistant coaching junior tennis at St. George's for 3 years, as well as assistant coaching Dartmouth High volleyball this year, and leading that team as captain last year.
